Getting Rsyncd, Vista and Backuppc to work
Recently upgraded to vista and for the life of me couldnt get the vista to work with rsyncd running from cygwin. Would always stop with a code 12 error and not alot else. I just run rsyncd or rsync with the daemon option as I dont belive the cwrsync works as a service yet on vista.
Now in the backuppc config options for rsyncd and rsync there is a hard link option I just removed that and it seems to work not sure why vista cant deal with that option but if you remove it, everything works as it did before on windows 2000 / XP.
Could you be more specific on where the hard link option is in the config?
Also, are you using BackupPC without running rsync as a service? This is what im trying to do unsuccessfully, I found this blog: http://www.goodjobsucking.com/?p=62 and he has been helping me, but it isnt working.
Im not having problems with vista (im sure i would if i were using vista) these machines are XP and 2k3. If i can get away with not installing it as a service it would be awesome.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
I was getting an “Access is Denied” error when trying to install rsync as a service on Vista. I was able to workaround this by turning off the ACL in User Accounts. I doubt if it’s the best solution. I will try your approach.
